sometimes I actually prefer the tone with the MXR raising the mids a bit, and doing the same on the GK head, while using the BBE. I have tried to scoop the mids on my MXR-Pre-amp and there's a big difference in tone. Maybe I can accomplish much the same with a parametic EQ, but frankly, this seems like an easy no work way to get that anyway. compression (dbx160A) not so much, unless I'm slapping hard and loud, but the 882i (my version of the sonic maximizer) is noticeable at any volume and is always better on than off, even if the knobs are moved significantly one way or another. What I will say is that I can certainly tell a HUGE difference between when it's on and when it's off. One guy even put his thru both channels and got lower noise, so I tried it and found this to also be the case, not sure if/what I lost however in doing the same.
